Serious Kids has inked a deal for mini-series The Unreal (Season 1) with France Television, marking the next step in bringing this gripping new live action family thriller to international audiences.

The first season of The Unreal excelled in its Sunday evening serialized rollout on RTEOne in October 2024 and the second season, now in production in a spooky hotel, will air in a similar slot in 2025. Targeted at kids 8+ and their families, all 8 half-hours were written by Rodney Lee, directed by Bonnie Dempsey, and produced by David O’Sullivan at Dyehouse Films.
A French-language version is underway for transmission later this year. The exact channel carriage and timing is still under review.
“This mini-series is a great addition to our slate of live action available on our platform Okoo, aimed at the older segment of our audience. Family dynamics and social/contemporary issues such as social media addiction and mental health are important themes that are addressed with sensitivity and humour in a gently scary narrative that we hope teens will enjoy as well as the whole family!”
Claire Heinrich, Director of Acquisitions for Children’s Content at France Television
The Unreal was commissioned by RTÉ, received funding from Coimisiún na Meán and Screen Ireland and was made with the support of incentives for the Irish Film Industry, provided by the Government of Ireland.
The second season is due for delivery Q4 2025.
