For more than 30 years, the Cinekid Foundation has been committed to stimulating the production of media for children and allowing children to contribute to its creation, with the aim of guiding the media development of children, giving them a critical view of the media. learn to look and enlarge their view of the world.
The highlight of this policy is the annual Cinekid Festival. At the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam and at almost 40 locations in the country, children between the ages of three and fourteen can watch new, special and striking films and television productions and come into contact with their makers. They can also explore the MediaLab: a digital playground of twelve hundred square meters with interactive art installations, workshops, games and apps. Cinekid for Professionals also takes place during the Cinekid Festival: an international, multi-day gathering for the children’s media industry.
Under the name Cinekid Inclusive, children from different ethnic groups and from all walks of life are reached through an annual school program. This extensive program also includes intensive collaborations with asylum seekers’ centers and weekend schools, so that all children in the Netherlands can come into contact with Cinekid.
Cinekid also offers year-round educational projects and activities aimed at strengthening the position of children in relation to the media, via workshops, Cinekid AppLab, film screenings with the class and teacher training.
